WHAT IS THE HAND-WALL TOSS?
The Hand-Wall Toss is a fitness test that can be utilised to test ones hand eye co-ordination ability. To complete the test, you will need a smooth, solid vertical surface or a wall, a tennis ball, 2 markers and a stopwatch to mark the 30 seconds available. The stopwatch is optional, and provides more intensity to the test, so the participant is under pressure.
PROCEDURE OF HAND-WALL TOSS:
A marker is placed a certain distance away from a wall or surface. The subject or participant then stands next to the marker, facing towards the wall. The time allowed is 30 seconds or 60 seconds (the result is then halved). The tennis ball is thrown from one hand in an underarm action against the wall, and attempted to be caught with the opposite hand. The ball is then thrown back against the wall and caught with the initial hand.
This diagram shows the procedure of the hand-wall toss. Throwing the ball against the wall and catching it with the other hand and vice versa.
DEMONSTRATION:
WHAT IS HAND-EYE CO-ORDINATION?
Hand-eye coordination is the control between both the hand movement and eye movement. It is also the ability of the vision system to co-ordinate the information received through the eyes to control, guide, and direct the hands in the accomplishment of a given task, such as handwriting or catching a ball. Basically, it is the ability of the vision system (eyes) to gather information on the hand movement to execute a given task.
GRAPHS OF RESULTS:
Mean, Median & Mode:
The mean or average of the 31 results of the Hand-Wall Toss was just over my score, reaching 19.97 (1.97 over my total score). To find the average you add the results and divide by the number of results counted.
